The Drawing Center—the only non-profit organization in the United States to focus solely on the exhibition of historical and contemporary drawings—will celebrate its 8th annual Benefit Auction, Drawing Gifts, on October 18, 2011 at Phillips de Pury in the Chelsea art district. Each year Drawing Gifts provides critical support for The Drawing Center’s programs and exhibitions. This year’s event is especially crucial as we break ground onReDraw, a major renovation project to expand and improve our current space at 35 Wooster Street in SoHo.
Co-Chaired by Marianne Boesky, Michele Oka Doner, Stacey Goergen, Alexander Gray, Sarah Hoover, Mary Sabbatino, Stephanie Schumann,Jacqueline Tran, and Candace Worth, the event is expected to draw over 400 prominent guests including established and emerging artists, art patrons and collectors, corporate executives and New York philanthropists.

TMW: “Artists for Women for Women Intl” Auction LONDON
Nadja Romain and Jenny Saville have invited leading contemporary artists to donate a work to benefit Women for Women International. Gagosian Gallery will exhibit highlights at its Britannia Street space, from 27th September to 1st October, andChristie’s will auction the works in their Post-War and Contemporary Day Sale on 15th October during Frieze Art Fair (13th – 16th October 2011).
Following the success of last year’s TANK Art Attack event, a project launched by Nadja Romain and Jose Martos which raised over £240,000 for Women for Women International, this year’s event promises to be an exciting opportunity to bring together members of the art world and Women for Women International to raise awareness and funds to support women survivors of war. All proceeds from the auction will go directly to Women for Women International’s programmes around the world, providing women with the tools to rebuild their lives.
This year Artists for Women for Women International would like to take the fundraising to another level, and help even more women. Artists for Women for Women International will bring together an impressive group of talented artists and partners dedicated to the work of Women for Women International. 27th September to 1st October, 10am-6pm daily Gagosian Gallery — Britannia Street, London Christie’s Post-War and Contemporary day sale Saturday 15th October. Nadja Romain & Jenny Saville Nadja Romain is a key advocate of the work of Women for Women International, putting to work her impressive experience in the arts to support Women for Women International through last year’s TANK Art Attack and co-chairing this year’s Artists for Women for Women International event. Nadja is an independent producer, specialised in the field of art films and artist films, a curator and writer and has worked as a journalist for press and television (Conde Nast, Canal+). Her projects include documentaries such as No Restraint: A portrait of Matthew Barney, feature film Mister Lonely, which premiered in Cannes 2007, TV show Dr. Portnoy Provocateur premiered at Sundance 2008 and A Better Life by Isaac Julien in Competition in Venice 2010. Nadja currently divides her time between Paris, New York and London where she formed her own company, Everything I Want, devoted to developing and producing films, art projects, books and events. She is the Director and Head of Programming at tank.tv, an online museum of contemporary artists and is writing “Faces of Change” a book to celebrate women’s empowerment. Jenny Saville is a committed supporter of Women for Women International, donating a piece to the TANK Art Attack project in 2010, which was sold at auction in Christie’s Post War and Contemporary Day Sale in October 2010 for £190,000. Saville has been included in exhibitions worldwide, known for large-scale paintings and is represented by Gagosian Gallery. She was educated at the Glasgow School of Art and the University of Cincinnati. Her work is usually traditional figurative oil painting, often focused on the female body. She is one of the Young British Artists, a group that achieved considerable media coverage and dominated British art during the 1990s. Marking 30 years since the discovery of AIDS, this dynamic exhibition will bring together 30 iconic and specially commissioned artworks by established and emerging talent including Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Gérard Rancinan, Katrin Fridriks and Shepard Fairey…
The exhibition will culminate in an exclusive reception and auction of all the featured works. 100% of the proceeds will contribute to the MTV Staying Alive Foundation for its continuing work to empower young people and their grassroots efforts to prevent HIV in local communities around the world.
